The public is invited to join in the club’s Zoom conference call every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. to hear the speakers, he said. On Thursday, Feb. 25, California State Senator John Laird is the club’s featured speaker. Laird was elected to the Senate on Nov. 3, 2020, carrying his district with a margin of over 145,000 votes. He was sworn in to represent Senate District 17 on Dec. 7, 2020. In the State Senate, Laird chairs and serves on a broad array of committees: Chair, Senate Budget Subcommittee #1 (Education), Vice-Chair, Joint Legislative Audit Committee, Member, Appropriations Committee, Member, Budget & Fiscal Review Committee, Member, Joint Legislative Committee on Budget, Member, Judiciary Committee, Member, Labor, Public Employment & Retirement, Member, Natural Resources & Water Committee, Member, Rules Committee, Member, Joint Legislative Committee on Rules. Senate District 17 contains Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo Counties in their entirety, as well as portions of Monterey and Santa Clara Counties.
